Fashion week is around the corner and while the perennial favorite from the large fashion houses always grab our attention, there’s nothing that we love more at Fluff than discovering new designers. Here are 5 designers that you should look out for this upcoming fashion week.
Starting his fashion line Harbison in 2013, designer Charles Harbison has been making major waves in the fashion world for a young designer. You might have spotted several of Harbison’s expertly tailored modern luxurious pieces on the Knowles sisters, Solange and Beyoncé. NYC PYTs Hannah Bronfman and Sophie Elgort are also hugh fans. The brand is also pushing boundaries and design aesthetics with androgyny so there’s a fast growing fan-base of Harbison men too! With a great partnership in the pipeline with a major online platform, expect some pretty big things from Harbison this NYFW.
Founded in 2012 by Rosie Assoulin, this namesake brand is a staple in every it-girl’s closet from Karlie Kloss to Rihanna. The Rosie Assoulin design aesthetic toes the line between the romantically fantastical and reliably practical and has earned the designer praise from the CFDA as a 2014 and 2015 Swarovski Womenswear Nominee. Being so highly esteemed with a seemingly rapid assent in the fashion game hasn’t changed Rosie Assoulin’s tongue-in-cheek, whimsical approach to fashion and we can’t wait to see what she has in store for us this NYFW.
Another CFDA-darling designer to watch this NYFW on our list is Atlanta-born, Wes Gordon. Every bit the Southern gentleman, Wes Gordon’s designs is the perfect bridge of classic and contemporary, uptown vs. downtown. The Wes Gordon swans definitely hail from both worlds: from art darlings, to uptown society ladies, to none other than Kim Kardashian. Always on the cusp of what’s next, Wes Gordon actually debuted his last fashion week collection via Instagram so we’re definitely looking forward to his plans for this NYFW.
Our next emerging designer, Laquan Smith has dressed everyone like Olympian Gabby Douglas, Rihanna, Beyonce, Laverne Cox and Serena Williams… trust us, the list goes on and on. Born in NYC, this designer is inspired by unapologetically glamorous women and his bold designs, influenced by pop culture of perfect for the trend-setters of today. With dobermans down the runway and campaigns staring Magic Johnson’s daughter, Elisa, we can’t wait to see what he comes up with for next season.
The Sally LaPointe aesthetic is modern, minimal and luxe with an edge. Founded in 2010, luxurious knits are a trademark of the Sally LaPointe brand and we can’t wait to cozy up in one of her luxe cashmeres this winter. Industry lauded, Sally LaPointe won the FGI’s Rising Star award in 2010. With her last collection mixing organic fabrics like silk and cashmere with tough, sheer vinyl, we can’t wait to see what Sally LaPointe has in store for us this season.
