Elizabeth Laine is a Los Angeles, California native. From a young age, it was instilled in Elizabeth to express herself artistically by her grandmother who was a home economics teacher and published author. After pursuing studies in Art & Design, Elizabeth took her passion for creating and fascination with handbags to establish the Elizabeth Laine brand.

This lifestyle company specializes in leather goods. All Elizabeth Laine handbags are combined with rich skins, opulent fabrics and adorned with gold-tone hardware. As Elizabeth’s dream of having a handbag line was coming in to fruition, Elizabeth still felt there was a void in her brand. She wanted every aspect of the company to speak true to her being and how she wanted to impact the world. With an annual birthday tradition of feeding the homeless, the idea of “The Laine Effect” was born. “The Laine Effect” is an exclusive program created by Elizabeth Laine to give back within the Los Angeles Community. For every one handbag that is purchased a care package is donated to a homeless person in need. Check out our interview below with Elizabeth:

Name: Elizabeth Laine
Occupation: Owner and Designer of the Elizabeth Laine Brand
Years in the Industry: 14 years in the Fashion Industry
Q: When did you first learn that you wanted to be a designer?
I come from a family where both my Mother and Grandmother would sew clothing for my Sister and myself. I caught on to Fashion as a Teenager and knew this is what I wanted to do for a Career. I would alter clothes to create new designs out of the outfits. The first huge Fashion Designer I fell in love with was Betsey Johnson.
Q: What has been the most exciting moment in your career?
The most exciting moment in my Career was seeing my handbags on the runway during New York Fashion Week with collaboration I had with Angela Simmons clothing brand Vipe Active Wear.

Q:  What are your fashion projections for this season?
My Projections for the current season are Larger Handbags that are less structured and have a multifunctional use.
Q: What advice do you have for someone aspiring in your field?
The advice I would give to anyone aspiring in my field would be to work hard, educate yourself about the industry and make your brand authentic to who you are.
Q: What have been some of the barriers you've faced in this industry?
The biggest barrier I faced was transitioning from working for a company to becoming my own boss. With passion and hard work anything is possible.
Q: What is a staple fashion item that we should all have?
The Fashion item I think everyone should have of course is a handbag. Whether male or female it is the most convenient item to accessorize any outfit. It holds all of your important possessions while still allowing you to be stylish. My personal favorite handbag style is the Fanny pack because of the option to have your hands free.
