Curls, Curls, Curls

For years there has been somewhat of an image of the "perfect woman." The woman would be of a certain height, body image, and look a certain way. The "perfect woman" would be quite the eye catcher and have this beautiful, long STRAIGHT hair. So what about us women who have curly textured hair? Do we not fit in the category of the "perfect woman" just because of our hair texture? WRONG!!!

Women with curly hair have been made to feel that their hair texture is not acceptable in society for the longest. At a young age, society teaches us that curly textured hair was not manageable and our hair should be straight. Because of this we were never properly educated on how to take care of our curly texture and what products are best to use.

Here are some of the best products of 2018 to use for all curly haired gals:

Sebastain Professionals Twisted Elastic Cleanser and Detangler - these products, otherwise known as a shampoo and conditioner, helps keep curls bouncy with elasticity. The detangler locks-in moisture and helps to repair curl's natural vitality.

Bumble&Bumble Curl Custom Conditioner - a 3 in 1 hydrating conditioner. You can wash it out, leave it in or use it as a co-wash. This product helps to de-frizz, smooth, and add bounce.

Oyin Handmade Hair Dew Daily Quenching Lotion - this product helps keep our curls moisturized and helps with detangling. Perfect to apply after the shower when hair is still damp.

Design Essetials Coconut & Monoi Water Curl Refresher - lightweight spray instantly brings curls back to life. Can be used daily to help keep curls hydrated  and tame frizz.

Mielle Organics Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk - helps to keep dry hair hydrated. Use this product as a daily moisturizer for your curls.

Oribe Curl Gloss Hydration and Hold - A lightweight gel creating soft, frizz-free definition with no greasy residue.

We are all guilty of not knowing how to properly take care of our curly locks. We end up straightening our hair which can damage our natural curl pattern, however, when we finally decide to sport our curls we can sometimes end up looking like a big frizz ball which makes most of us hate our curls.

Here are some hair tips you could follow to show off your natural texture:

  1. Apply shampoo to your hair before showering.

    • This helps to spot treat the areas that need the most cleansing, and it makes detangling easier.

  2. Co-wash your hair.

    • This is the best way to cleanse hair while still retaining natural moisture.

  3. Use fingers to detangle the hair.

    • The more gentle and patient you are the better the experience. Another tip while detangling, is to detangle it from ends upwards. It makes the process faster, less stressful for the hair, and less likely to fall out.

  4. Diffuse curls the right way.

    1. Avoid overheating curls. Keep the blow dryer heat on medium. Keep diffuser at a 45 degree angle.  Do not over dry the curls! Alternate between sections, holding the diffuser on each section for no more than 40-50 seconds. Keep doing this until hair is 95% dry.

  5. Keep curls in tact overnight.

    • The best way to keep curls in tact is by pinning your hair on top of your head and twisting an old, soft cotton T-shirt with it. This will keep curls neat ans reduce friction while sleeping.

  6. Even distribution

    • Be sure there is an even distribution of the product when coating the hair strands.

  7. Patience is key.

    • Curls are very high maintenance, but with patience and persistence, we can all fall in love with our curls.

Now that we have an idea of what products to use, and learned new ways to help us properly manage our curly hair, let's all embrace our natural curls, and begin showing society that the definitions of a "perfect woman" have changed.
