As we all begin to pack our bags and bikinis for a long overdue vacation, it's safe to say that it is officially summer.
We've all been waiting to let our hair down, soak up the sun, and take hundreds of photos by the beach this season; but let's not forget, with summer comes annoying mosquitoes, excessive heat, and humidity. While a little bug spray and an ice-cold water bottle could be the solution to the flies and beaming sun, humidity makes us all uncomfortable and ultimately ruins a perfect hair day. But don't frizz out, Fluff has a few tips that can help tame our natural tresses and extensions this summer!
#1 Develop a Healthy Hair Care Routine
Get comfortable with your natural hair and identify your hair type. Naturally, straight hair typically needs to be shampooed several times a week while more kinky curly textures require one shampoo a week. Regardless of your texture of hair, try to rinse your hair with cool water after a shampoo to retain as much moisture as possible. Another major key is deep conditioning. Be sure to deep condition your hair at least once a month. If you're wearing extensions, it is important to have a sulfate free conditioner on hand this summer, especially if you have added color to your tresses. Which leads us to tip number two...
#2 Natural Products Only
Chemically enhanced products do nothing but mask the issue for the time being. Ultimately it will damage both your real hair and extensions. Be sure to use sulfate and alcohol-free products on your hair.
#3 Moisturizers Are Your Friend
A lot of people shy away from adding extra product to their hair in fear of "oily" or "heavy" hair. In reality, moisture is the best way to tame any flyaways and frizz over the summer. A good leave-in conditioner can be a lifesaver, especially when working with more curly textures. Also, try natural light oils like argan oil, which adds shine and nutrients to your hair.
#4 Protect & Style
Blending is key. The worst thing that could happen this summer is to be taking a stroll and your leave-out sweats out while your extensions are bone, silk straight. Prevent this nightmare from happening by choosing a texture that is closest to your natural hair texture. Also, be sure to use a heat guard when flat ironing the hair, then add a silk serum once styling is complete.
