September issues traditionally set the tone for the upcoming fashion season, so when it was announced that Beyonce and Rihanna were to be cover girls for the September issue of Vogue and British Vogue respectively fashionistas, fans, and stans alike waited with baited breath for a glimpse of these soon to be iconic covers. As expected both women not only slayed their cover but they also made history.
The utterly radiant Beyonce did something only she could do, she received an unprecedented amount of control of her cover issue; which is unheard of! She had untethered access to it all and with that great power came great responsibility. She made a historic decision by handpicking 23-year- old Brooklyn based photographer Tyler Mitchell to shoot her cover. Mitchell is the first black photographer to shoot a cover of with the 126-year-old magazine. All hail Queen B!
BadGalRiRi also known as Rihanna continues to leave her mark in history. This time it's by becoming the first woman of color to grace the September cover of British Vogue’s in its 102 years existence. The singer, mogul, and actress was the only choice for British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful. "Fearless music-industry icon and businesswoman, when it comes to that potent mix of fashion and celebrity, nobody does it quite like her,” said Enninful about the island beauty. Three claps for Riri!
