We had an inside scoop on LaQuan Smith’s SS19 show! From the vintage mug shots print to sequin studded blazers, LaQuan Smith's New York Fashion Week Spring collection was everything we could imagine and more. Our Co-Founder & Creative Director, Ericka Dotson is taking us behind the scenes and on the runway.
Brown Is The Neutral Of The Season.
From beaver, beige, buff, burnt umber, tan, to sludge, all you need to do is find the right hue for you. You can go dramatic in monochromatic classic Ralph Lauren style ensemble. We adored the 70’s inspired Chloe Runway. They showed us how to do it right!
Cardigans Aren’t Just For Librarians Anymore.
The fashion world has gone crazy for cardigans. It is time to rummage your grandparent’s closet. Grandad knits with elaborate textures and prints were spotted at Miu Miu, Roksanda. You can even sport a neon-hued one. Style the cardigan with oversized proportions, or try pulling it off the shoulder and belting it around the waist for a sensual silhouette.
The Animal Kingdom Is On The Prowl.
Python, zebra, cheetah and croc prints roamed free and wild across the catwalk shows this season. Victoria Beckham’s show was an ode to her love of leopard print. Isabel Marant slithered in snake pattern trousers. Go for gold with a head to toe animal print look or just a dash will do with an oversized animal print fur.
The Ankle-Grazing Skirt.
What's a must have, romantic item to buy this season? A full-length skirt. It's like a close cousin to a midi skirt that falls a little longer. The sweet spot for the trend is you want the hem to hit just above the ankle. The look above was done oh so gracefully at Christian Dior.
Fringe. Need We Say More.
Another skirt to add to the shopping list is a fringe skirt. This fashion piece is not for the faint of heart, only for the fashionably bold. Givenchy, Proenza Schouler, and Dolce and Gabbana showcased this tend on the runway, and it was visually stunning! This skirt style can be a little impractical as daywear but who cares, right!
We Are Mad For 90”s Plaid.
Ugh, as if you'd wear anything but plaid this fall! This season, we're taking notes from Cher Horowitz by way of Versace, Michael Kors, and Christian Dior. Relive 90’s grunge and prep nostalgia with plaid skirts, sweater dresses, and much more.
Highlighter Hot Pink!
Millennial pink, so last season! Now the fuchsia hue is highlighting the catwalk as the "it" color of the season. Wear it all over this fall, just like the models did at Christian Siriano, Tory Burch and more. Cheers, to brighten up the world during the fall!
The catwalk was full of mullet-esque, business in the front party in the back. Fall 2018 Alexander Wang’s Risqué suiting is not safe for work. Asymmetrical necklines, super short hemlines, and underboob cutouts made the fall suit more like a catsuit, more suitable for a night out.
