Vegan Life

Vegan. Plant-based. Raw vegan. It seems like everywhere you turn these words are popping up lately. Many people have an image in their head of what veganism is. Toss in some yoga, tea, & meditation, and that’s what many define as a vegan. It’s much more and, contrary to what some believe, it can be fun. Veganism means that you don’t eat any foods produced using animals or animal products. That doesn’t mean that you can only have fruits and vegetables, with a dash of tofu. Grains, legumes, nuts, and many other options are still available. If you’re a dairy lover, there are substitutes for almost everything you could crave. Being vegan doesn’t mean sacrifice. It means finding new foods to explore.

Acai Bowls

Acai bowls are a great way to start your day. Acai (Ah – sigh – ee) is the current “It” of superfoods. Not only is it a good source of fiber and healthy fat, but it is also an antioxidant. Partner it with some bananas, coconut flakes, almonds, and vegan granola for a refreshing and filling breakfast. Smoothie & juice shops often offer acai bowl options. And thanks to the frozen food section at Trader Joe’s you can also create your own at home.

Burger lovers, going vegan doesn’t mean that you have to stop having your Saturday night burger and fries. There’s plenty of options out there. Companies like Beyond Meat and DR. Praeger’s make it easy to enjoy a burger at home or a restaurant. Even places like Johnny Rockets now have vegan burger options, like black bean burgers. And many restaurants offer Portobello burgers. This option substitutes meat with a hearty Portobello mushroom.

Nice Cream

With summer right around the corner ice cream is probably in your near future. Even though becoming a vegan means no dairy you can still have a summer treat. Nice cream can be made in a few simple steps using fruit, nut milk, and a blender or food processor. If you want to grab something out of the freezer at your supermarket So Delicious brands, make some pretty awesome nut milk based ice creams.

And speaking of tasty treats, you can still enjoy cake on your birthday. Whole Foods offers full-sized vegan cakes in their bakeries, as well as by the slice. And they’re so yummy that you’ll find it almost impossible to decide on a flavor.

Endless Options

It can be a bit overwhelming when you’re first starting, but there’s guidance out there. The vegan community on Instagram is hugely supportive. You can connect with like-minded people down the block or across the world. And there’s online support like Beautify The Inside, a 21 – day journey to help you get started.

The vegan world is wide open for you to explore!
